Indy and Consept Go Off On “Runner Up”

“I had been reaching out to Consept for a while about collaborating on something for old times sake. I live in Florida now, but I went back home for other music related things and we eventually set up a time, picked a beat and wrote most of the record on the spot.” – Indy on how the track came about

New Jersey rapper Indy has been on our radar for quite some time. Over the summer, we wrote an editorial on the rising talent following the release of his debut project, Paradise on the Ground and after recently signing with New York based management agency Soundturf, he’s teamed up with an old high school friend by the name of Consept. Back in 2012, the two met through mutual friends and soon developed a working relationship. By making songs together, their chemistry grew exponentially, eventually selling out two shows at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Though the songs and the performances went over well, both knew that the other wanted to focus on a solo career and as a result, both went their separate ways. This song marks their first collaboration in three years.

When asked about the driving force behind the track the two rappers said:

I: “We kinda wanted something that we could flex on a little bit. My last project was very deep and meaningful and I haven’t really been able to just spit some raw material in minute, so (writing this song) was super alleviating for me”

C:  “I honestly just wanted to spit some crazy bars for this one. I told Indy that I wanted first verse and he basically was just like, ‘Hell yeah homie, you better kill that shit’, so I made sure I wrote some shit that would raise some ears. I laid down the hook and it sounded great so we agreed that the hook should be me and that Indy would just have the second verse.”

Both men are working on new music and as far as Indy goes, his upcoming project Welcome Home will be available this Winter.
