“DOPE”, A FILM ‘FOR THE POST-HIP HOP GENERATION’

DOPE

This movie has snuck up on us.

The trailer for this upcoming film was released just 2 days ago. The film features many familiar faces like A$AP Rocky, Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, Tyga, and more.

Directed by Rick Famuiya, Dope is a film made, not for the Oscars, but for the new generation of rap and music in general. Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoë Kravitz, and with voice narrations from Forest Whitaker, this seems like it could be an interesting film. By the way, did I mention A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Casey Veggies, and Vince Staples are in this too?

The current plot information is as followed:

Malcolm is a geek, carefully surviving life in The Bottoms, a tough neighborhood in Inglewood, CA filled (with) gangsters and drugs dealers, while juggling his senior year of college applications, interviews and the SAT. His dream is to attend Harvard. A chance invitation to a big underground party leads Malcolm and his friends into a, only in Los Angeles, gritty adventure filed with offbeat characters and bad choices. If Malcolm can persevere, he’ll go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.” (IMDB)

Hm. This could either be really dope or really horrible. But, shit, some of my favorite rappers are in it, so I’m down.

Here is the trailer:

What do you think could come out of this movie?

“DOPE” is now in theaters everywhere.
